Privacy Policy

Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how OrdinaryKids LLC (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use Hey OK (the “Service”). Hey OK is a voice AI: having a conversation necessarily means your voice and words are processed by the AI services that power it. This policy names those services and says exactly what each one receives. We aim to collect only what we need to run the Service well.
Information we collect
- Contact details you provide, such as the email address from your sign-in provider (Apple or Google) and your name, if you choose to share one. Using the app as a guest requires no contact details at all — a random device identifier stands in for an account.
- Your mobile phone number, if you choose to give it, so we can verify your account and — separately, and only if you opt in — send you text messages.
- Conversation content — your voice audio, captured through your device’s microphone only while a conversation you started is active, the transcript of what you and Hey OK said, and the memories, goals, and insights Hey OK derives from your conversations to keep continuity between them.
- Usage data such as device, diagnostic, and analytics information, collected to understand and improve performance (see “Analytics and diagnostics” below).
How we use your information
- to operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
- to communicate with you, including waitlist and product updates;
- to keep the Service secure and prevent abuse;
- to comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your conversations to train our own or anyone else’s AI models, and we do not sell your personal information.
The AI services that power Hey OK
When you have a conversation, the app asks for your permission first (the “Before your first conversation” screen), then sends data to these providers — each one only what it needs for its part of the conversation:
- LiveKit (LiveKit Cloud) carries the secure, real-time audio connection between your device and Hey OK. Your voice audio passes through it while a conversation is active.
- Deepgram receives your voice audio and turns it into text (speech-to-text).
- Anthropic (Claude) receives the conversation transcript together with the context Hey OK keeps for you — your name (if you shared one), goals, and memories from earlier conversations — and generates Hey OK’s responses. Transcripts are also analyzed by Anthropic models after a conversation to produce summaries, insights, and the safety check described below.
- Cartesia receives Hey OK’s text replies and turns them into speech (text-to-speech).
- Tavily receives a search query when Hey OK looks something up on the web for you during a conversation.
These providers process your data solely to provide their service to us, under their commercial API terms and confidentiality obligations, and each is required to protect your data to a standard the same as or equal to this policy. They are processors, not owners, of your data. Your email address and sign-in details are never shared with them, and the record Hey OK keeps of you — your history, memories, and goals — is stored on our servers, encrypted at rest, not by these providers.
Safety check
After a conversation, an automated check (run on Anthropic’s models) reviews the transcript for signs that someone may be in crisis, so Hey OK can respond appropriately in future conversations. This is automated; no person reads your conversations in the ordinary course of operating the Service.
Analytics and diagnostics
We use PostHog for product analytics (which screens and features are used, linked to your account ID, email, name, and plan tier) and Sentry for crash reporting and performance monitoring (error reports and device performance data, linked to your account ID). We use these only to understand and improve the Service — not for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Text messages (SMS)
Giving us your phone number and agreeing to receive texts are two separate things. We use your number to send a one-time verification code so we know the number is yours. We only send check-in nudges and reminders if you separately opt in — the checkbox is optional, and you can use Hey OK without ticking it.
If you do opt in, you can expect up to 7 msgs/week. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not affect your account or the rest of the Service.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers who help us operate the Service — the AI providers named above (LiveKit, Deepgram, Anthropic, Cartesia, Tavily), our analytics and diagnostics providers (PostHog, Sentry), and our email and SMS providers — under appropriate confidentiality obligations, or where required by law. Each provider receives only the data needed for its role, and we require that they protect it to the same standard we do.
Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business or legal purposes, after which we delete or anonymize it.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can delete your account and everything Hey OK has stored about you at any time from the app: Settings → Delete account & data. For any other request, contact us using the details below.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest for stored conversation data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with an updated date.
